More than ever it’s important to understand where our food comes from and how it makes the journey from the field to our fridges, but have you ever thought about getting involved with your local farmers to find out more about what life’s really like down on the farm? Well there’s an opportunity to do just that and discover more about farming during Open Farm Sunday
Since its launch in 2006 100’s of farmers across the UK have been participating in this major industry event and welcoming the general public onto farms of all shapes and sizes to share their story about farm life.
Open Farm Sunday takes place every year in June, and each participating farm offers a unique experience. You may have the opportunity to get involved in different activities during the day such as farm walks and meet the farm animals, you could be watching lovely dairy cows being milked or playing together. You could be on a nature trail or enjoy a tractor ride and some farms have even organised mini farmers market and picnics. Whatever the experience it’s a great way to meet and get to know your local farmers and learn more about the great work they do.
